Tell Them You Love Me (2024)

This has to be the most bizarre documentary I've seen in a long while. I went in totally blind and I was genuinely shocked by the end. I knew that this documentary was new on Netlfix and was in the top ten films in the United States at the time it was dropped.

To be perfectly clear. Anna was in the wrong and abused the shit out of Derrick - raped him more than once, and basically served no prison time for it.

For those of you who know nothing, like I did, let me fill you in.

Apparently, it is far more common than expected for those caring for the disabled to sexually abuse their disabled clients or patients. Which is fucking bonkers to me.

Anna Stubblefield was no different than those vile manipulators that DO take advantage of those who may be intellectually and/or physically disabled.

Let me be clear once more: any human being that exists with any intellectual disability that affects their ability to verbally communicate or physically consent clearly and without confusion or question cannot consent to sexual activity or a physical ongoing relationship with another, LET ALONE someone who is their caretaker and in a position of authority over that individual with disability.

I fully support the mother and brother, and the rest of Derrick's family. Anna was entirely in the wrong, and for her to essentially "talk to herself" through Derrick and Anna's use of facilitated communication. Read more on that here.

It has become an outdated form of assistance, and after the expert reviewed Derrick's basis of intelligence and level of disability, I am convinced that Anna "helped" him type out his so-called "consent."

She is disgusting. Not because she supposedly loves Derrick, but because she took advantage of someone who could not fully comprehend what consenting to sex with an able-bodied individual might mean, or what the consequences of sex may be for him and Anna.

End of Story.
